Snow my goodness……
I want to thank everyone who participated in the party this week. It was a great distraction for me with the Blizzard of ’11 raging through here….
There is nothing like the Midwest in the height of winter to make you want to move to Florida….
This was my view outside my front window on Wednesday morning.
My neighbor across the street was really nice to come and dig out my front door as we were trapped inside.
When I started shoveling the almost 3 feet of snow to get the van out all I could think was. “Oh man, I am never going to make it.”… Then an amazing thing happened.
Neighbors.
The Neighborhood came out in mass and soon it was a big shoveling party. Everyone was helping everyone else. A couple of my neighbors with snow blowers finished the hardest part for me (which was the packed down end of the driveway where the plows were, that stuff is a bear.) and then we all went over and helped another neighbor together, and so on. Three hours later everyone was dug out. If there is one reason for me to never move from this house it’s my blessing of such amazing neighbors.
The kids were great the first day, They played in the drifts and piles all day, but then there was the second snow day off of school. Snow days seem like they should sound all warm and cozy and restful. Then there is the reality with young school age kids. It was below freezing with temperatures of 5 degrees. It made the little monkey’s and mama a bit stir crazy.
It was craft project time.
I took out some old canvases I had and they did self-portraits.
*sigh* they are all back to school today. The house is quiet. I give you home schooling mama’s some really big props. Ssshhh… can you hear that? It’s the sounds of nothing….Aaahhhh.

That’s a lot of drifting snow, Jen! It’s great to have good neighbors to help out- I had my neighbors dig me out before I bought my own behemoth of a snow blower. I was going nuts on Wed. and it was only one day! Sometimes too much TV is not a good thing! LOL Can you say overload?!

I guess I can be thankful for the tornadic winds here on the plains! LOL! Most of the snow from my yard blew into the neighbor’s!
Though I home school my child is restless. It is too cold to do much of anything outdoors so we have been making scrapbooks to remind us of summer.
The first page, “If you go to the beach do not go too far out into the water. I almost drowned.”
Second page, “I remember when we took an airplane to Maine. We threw up.”
It sounds like she is a bit negative. No?
Summer, please come soon!
i’m such a wuss. i’d never make it up there. 32 degrees is cold enough for me…& that’s without snow!
your girls art is fantastic. i love that first one. looks like some pricey folk art to me!
enjoy your quiet day at home xo
Hi Jen! That was so sweet of all your neighboors to help out like that. I know how you feel seems my kids were home the whole month of January. You have quiet the artist in your kids. Loved the art work!
Hi Jennifer, We have some really great neighbors too, so heart warming to hear the “Good” stories from the storm. Will you please invoice me for the blog event. Love, Penny
i am right there with ya…here in chicago! wish my neighbors were as nice as yours, but living in the city, mostly people stick to themselves 🙁
we are moving soon, so hopefully that will change!

You’re such a good mom, doing the self-portraits! I love that idea. Snow days (more than one, anyway) can really test a mom’s patience, that’s for sure. Way to keep ’em busy!
That is alot ! More then alot !!!I was there last winter.Dixon which is not too far from where you live.my friends still live there and son. I feel for you there.I like to ck on Anne Marie.I been there at her house for the show in May.I seen the pics.Stay in and keep warm and cozy.maybe its just Gods way of getting people to spend some time in with family ??? AZ here has had a cold side too.Enjoy your weekend.Stay warm >>Chickie
Jen, I think we have it bad in Texas. We have had solid ice since Tues and woke up this morning with about 6 inches of snow! Nothing compared to you, but for us Texans this is crazy and they are trying to have a Superbowl here. Let’s just say it isn’t good! As for the mom’s with young kids they are going crazy, day 4 of no school! I’m loving it, lots of time for projects!
yikes, snow my goodness is right! that’s crazy. i looooove our snowblower, best thing ever that appreciate anew each winter!
YOur little monkeys are pretty artistic! I love the self-portraits. Good neighbors is such a blessing, we have the best now that we have ever had. I cannot imagine moving from here.
Glad you got out of the snow!
Hugs, Cindy

That’s a lot of snow! So nice to have such a close community to give each other a hand. I escaped the snow in Canada for Ireland this week but it’s been gale force winds and whipping rain – the kind that exfoliates your face when you step outside. I guess it was Ireland’s version of your snow storm. Come. On. Spring. Now. Please.
have a great weekend xo
That is a lot of snow and I can’t even imagine having to deal with that. It’s great that your neighbors are so sweet. My neighbors hardly even speak and they say they are so much more friendly in the south, South Carolina that is. I love the artwork and the fact that you just had the supplies lying around. I need to do that. We had a snow week last month and it was rough after day 2. School could’ve been open but since they hardly get snow here they were just super cautious.

oh how I feel your pain, I spent the first day shoveling for 3 hours….I have no more room for this snow!…..so over the white stuff….
Wow – that was a lot of snow! Reminds me of last winter here in Va – unfortunately my neighbors weren’t so gracious. My husband was in Haiti helping out with the recovery mission and I was trapped in my house for 2 days as I couldn’t open the front or garage door! It was hell on earth I can tell ya! Lets hope all this white winter stuff is nearing an end so we can get back to some normality (whatever that is!). Stay safe and warm!
Your photos resemble my yard, Jenn! However I’m not blessed with any neighbors close by….and with hubby gone (figures….), I was out there first thing in the morning shoveling the drift outside my door so I could let the poor dog out! lol! Spring, oh, spring….where are you…????
What a great idea to keep the kiddos busy. 🙂 Looks like there are some budding artists in the family! 🙂
Enjoy the peace and quiet… ♥

OMG, Being from Southern CA, I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that much snow before! Stay warm and you’re kids pics are darling. They definitely need to be framed.
Wow! That’s a lot of snow! LOVE your kids paintings! How fun!
Snow my goodness is right!
We drove by a sign the other day that read
“Snow For Sale”
At this point you have to have a sense of humor!
I totally empathize with the snow situation…we’ve been getting hammered in NJ and if I never shovel another day that would be a good thing. But I just read that it’s 110 degrees in one blogger’s town in Australia…so that put things in perspective a bit. 🙂
Love the self portraits! And I also enjoy the sound of nothing, especially after everyone is home for a few days! Enjoy!
Oh goodness,I’m sure it was a “good” silence you heard with the children in school! Some times they can be exasperating and others you can kiss them and hug them enough!!Stay warm and dry!!

Love your craft time! I have been hatin’ on winter in the worst way this year. Florida sounds pretty good to me too:)
Boy, that’s a LOT of snow. What a great thing it is to live in a neighborhood where everyone helps one another. I am lucky to live in one too!
I love the self portraits. Very cute!
