Upcycled wood tray by Ella Claire Inspired….

Hello again, friends! I am so happy to be back sharing a project with you again this week!
Last summer I scored two of these wooden trays at a yard sale for $3 each. I revamped one of them last year, but ended up giving it to a friend. I still had one left, and knew that I wanted it to use with all of my holiday decor this year so I decided to stop procrastinating and make her pretty already!
Here is the before picture:
A wooden serving tray with a glossy finish sits on a striped tablecloth atop a wooden table.

First, I painted the sides of my tray.  I knew that I wanted to decoupage either book pages or sheet music on the inside of my tray, so I didn’t worry about painting that part.
A paintbrush rests on a wooden tray with white paint partially applied around the edges.
Once my paint was almost dry {because I am too impatient to wait until it is fully dry} I decoupaged some aged sheet music to the inside of the tray. After that, I let the whole thing dry really well.

Then I distressed the edges with 120 grit sandpaper by hand.

A hand uses sandpaper to distress the edge of a white wooden frame containing sheet music, placed on a cardboard-covered surface.
I love how it turned out. I think it is the perfect neutral backdrop for everyday and seasonal decor. It didn’t take very long to finish either. It only took about an hour or so.

I hope you are all having a wonderful time gearing up for fall! I am SO excited for all of the fall decor, crisp air, caramel apples, hayrides, colorful leaves, and hot apple cider!
I hope you have a wonderful week!

  1. Your tray is perfect for seasonal displays. Great idea to use sheet music, and you did just the right amount of distressing. Great table runner, too. Thanks for the inspiration.
