Shop Your House Fall Mercury Glass Pumpkin Tablescape

November 7, 2019 By Jennifer

I’m joining the Thrifty Style Team again to share a low budget decorating idea with you! I’ve been working with a design client to spruce up her home, and one of the recent projects was creating a Fall Mercury Glass Pumpkin Tablescape with items already on hand, and some fall leaves. She had some mercury glass pumpkins left over from last year, and some faux fall florals, and preserved leaves. Dressing up the table with them seemed like the perfect solution for a no-cost decorating idea. I am a big believer in using what you have, and I always try to encourage my clients to “shop their home” first before spending.

The request was a lower centerpiece that people could see each other over, and that could make it all the way through Thanksgiving until the holiday decor was brought out. I started by arranging her mercury glass pumpkins in the middle of the table over a pretty square tablecloth.  You could do a  variation of this in the winter with mercury glass trees and pine branches. I love using a smaller tablecloth over a larger one because they add a nice accent color or pattern over a plain tablecloth. If you love putting together beautiful tablescapes, you have to check out my friend, Bre’s (from the blog Rooms for Rent) new book, The Gift of Gathering.

Mercury glass pumpkins for a tablescape display

I started by placing the mercury glass pumpkins in the center of the table. While I generally like to group in threes or fives when building a display, I liked the idea of four in this case.  I placed some faux preserved leaf stems in the center, and angled the stems to the inside. You could use real stems as well, I love using real leaves in decorating. The biggest tip to using real leaves is to decorate with them when they are still pliable, and toss them before they get too crunchy.

Tuck real or faux preserved leaves into a tablescape

After placing leaves facing outside, use ones with shorter stems to cover the stems.

Tuck rose hip stems in the side

Tucking berry branches and pine cone branches also add some texture and color.

It’s a beautiful, simple and inexpensive centerpiece display. Real pumpkins can be substituted, and also can battery operated candles would be pretty.

I love mercury glass, and I have exactly ZERO. Oh wait, I think I might have a Christmas ornament in that style. I should remedy that, I’ll be on the lookout, especially for pumpkins those look awesome.
