Vintage Christmas Decorating

Adding vintage items to Christmas decor is a great way to add personality into the holidays. I love sourcing not only antique and vintage Christmas items to decorate with, but adding non-traditional finds ad well to my Christmas decorating.
A mirror decorated with pine garland and a "Glad Tidings" sign, with several vintage clocks and candles in front, reflecting a Christmas tree.

Layering vintage clocks on the buffet and a hand stenciled Glad Tidings sigh adds an old world feel to the decor. A pine garland draped over the mirror looks so pretty with the gold frame.

A decorative bird and pine branches sit atop an ornate framed mirror, with part of a sign reading "Glad" visible in the foreground.

A sweet faux bird in the upper corner makes it feel like a victorian- style Christmas. I love a vintage Christmas like that, such as this year I decorated with a Victorian aesthetic in mind.

A close-up of a vintage, weathered clock face without hands, leaning on a surface with greenery and ornaments in the foreground.

As you can tell, I love tucking vintage clock faces in places. This one in the mini-greenhouse is one of my favorites. I can just imagine how gorgeous the clock must have been in it.
An ornate vintage clock partially covered by evergreen branches, viewed through a white metal frame.
I also wanted to add some mercury glass and made this faux mercury glass mirror. You can see how to make  your own faux mercury glass mirror here.
A white door leaning against a beige wall, decorated with a framed wreath, next to a clear glass lamp with a beige shade.
I hung  mini-boxwood wreaths on the vintage doors and the faux old mirrors made from picture frames in our sitting area.  It has such a pretty look.I think boxwood is the new pine.

A Christmas tree decorated with a pink ornament, a silver ornament, white lace, and a vintage clock face among the branches.

And I copies vintage postcards and hung them on twine to decorate the tree.

A close-up of a Christmas tree with a Renaissance-style angel illustration and a pink ornament that reads "Merry Christmas.

Our tree holds  my great aunt’s Shiny Brite ornaments.  I used vintage lace for the garland to weave between the branches this year. I think I am going to be on the hunt for more Shiny Brites next year.
Pine garland and hanging crystal ornaments decorate the corner of a kitchen window with white trim.
I think I admired this  chandelier crystal garland on the Country Living website somewhere, so I of course, I stole their idea . I love the real Scotch Pine garland, it was my big splurge this season at $17. I added the vintage crystal  and twine garland. I am all about the bling at Christmas. I bought some glittered birds at Micheal’s on sale for 59 cents each. I need to find a home for them.

A distressed cabinet with glass doors displays teacups and glassware, topped with a garland of pine branches and ornaments; a chandelier hangs nearby.

I added my free pine cuttings from Home Depot to the top of my hutch. Did you know they had  a box marked FREE near the exit of tree trimmings? Is it bad when you make your preschooler carry some because your arms are full? Asking for a friend.
A small gold-framed sign with the word "Joy" sits on a wooden table next to a silver vase and a white plate with fruit.
A small JOY print out in a gold frame is the easiest little piece of decor. I even broke out a bit of Sweden with more free pine branches, an old battery operated candle and a small metal bucket I  had picked up at  Target last spring in the dollar bin. I saw a similar idea in Jean D’Arc magazine.  I have been inspired lately by the clean, simple look;  I was having a hard time getting into the holiday groove; but now I am ready to head to Whole Foods for my eggnog and start packing the Christmas calories on.

  3. Jennifer, you have a really lovely blog. I enjoyed all of your recents posts, esp. the one about Christmas dinner with the family- it’s so true! When we were kids, we’d go to my great-grandparents house and eat dinner early, then wait for Santa to come. We would all stand quietly and listen for the bells- found out later it was my uncle… such great memories.
