Easy DIY Vintage Man in the Moon Face Decor

There has always been something about the idea of the man in the moon watching over us from high in the sky. Ever since I made this man in the moon upcycled tray, I’ve been obsessed. I found  a super cute vintage moon face on The Graphics Fairy (link at end if post), and I wanted to create a few man in the moon face decor wood rounds for decorating with and selling in my mini- shop at Warehouse 55. They ended up being so cute, I wanted to share with you how to make your own! It’s super easy, and you can also watch the video below to see the project in action to make vintage man in the moon decor. I also have a man in the moon tea towel your can purchase here which adds a nice spooky touch to your fall decor.

This project is so easy to do, and uses really inexpensive supplies! There is a link to the graphic I used graphic at the end of the post.

The supplies to make this vintage man in the moon decor that is perfect for a spooky touch to your decor are: a wood 10″ round, the man in the moon image printed at 11 inches (print this on 11 x17 cardstock, sized to touch the ends of the short side of the paper), black craft paint, brushes, decoupage medium and scissors. Find supplies here.

Paint wood round with black paint and a brush

Paint your wood round on the backside with black craft paint. You don’t need to paint the front side, the paper will be glued to that side. It dries fairly quickly. While it’s drying, you can cut out your moon face.

Trim off any excess edges on moon face image on th moon face

Once the paint is dry. brush decoupage medium on the front of your wood round, and the back side of your moon paper cut out.

Press the two decoupaged surfaces to glue together

Press the paper onto the wood and smooth down firmly, pressing to remove all of the air bubbles that might be trapped under the surface.

Flip over and trim back of glued down moon image with scissors

Let the decoupage glue dry an the trim any excess paper that hangs over the wood portion off of the edge.

Distress edges of moon face with a stamp pad

Run brown stamp pad around the edge to give the moon a vintage and aged look and dull down any white paper that might be noticeable.
