A Dresser for Kitchen Storage

We always think about storage as traditional cabinets in a kitchen and in a dining room, hutches or buffets.  The  fun thing is is any peice of furniture can function as storage with the right  kind of styling. In our kitchen nook/ dining area, I wanted to add some more storage and mix things up a bit so I decided to bring in a dresser for kitchen storage. Sometimes little changes in moving furniture around can make some really big changes.
A dining nook with a striped bench, a table with flowers, a lamp on a side table, and a large ornate mirror reflecting a chandelier and decor.

I loved having this set up, but wanted to give it a fresh look.

Add a Dresser in the Kitchen for Storage

I also wanted some more storage and had an extra dresser in our living room I could move over as well as athe kids have been out growing the bench. So I swapped the dresser from the sitting area and moved it under the mirror above the nook.
A dark wood dresser with a decorative mirror above it, topped with a lamp, a tray holding teacups, flowers, and a wire mannequin, creates a cozy kitchen nook in a warmly lit room with patterned curtains.
I love how the dark dresser looks against the white beadboard wallpaper. It also has really opened up the area quite a bit.
A vintage mirror reflects part of a kitchen nook and a wall sign; in front of it, a table holds a glass lamp, a floral arrangement, and various pitchers and decor items.

Add Lamps for Coziness

To give it a more cozy and living in look, I moved the lamp from the living room in and a photo holder I found for  $7 at  a yard sale!
A vintage tray graces a kitchen nook, holding a glass bottle, white pitcher, creamer, plate, and a vase of colorful flowers on a wooden table.

Flowers Make a Space Brighter

I added some fresh zinnias and cornflowers from the yard in vintage ironstone. The colorful flowers really brighten up the area.
A close-up of a white vase filled with colorful zinnia flowers—bright pink, light green, and yellow blooms—adds charm to a kitchen nook, placed next to a decorative silver tray.
I think it makes such  a difference and really opens things up  bit. And I love how the dresser looks with the mirror and the lamp on top.

I saw the new Pottery Barn catalog this weekend and discovered that I had better taste in paint colors than I thought. Bennington Grey was all over their catalog walls and I painted mine that last October with the kitchen reno. Either that or they are blog stalking 😉 .

  1. So fresh! I’m always so impressed when just a few changes of furniture and accents makes such a big impact. And I love that mirror!

I’d vote that Pottery Barn is stalking your blog!! 🙂

  2. Hand over the mirror and no one will get hurt. LOL! LOVE the mirror. Great little change around. I do that too. My hubby never knows what to expect. Ha! Ha!

  3. I was just looking at my new Country Living magazine and there was your kitchen – I would recognize your gorgeous silver tray anywhere – congrats – how very exciting!!!

  4. I just saw your kitchen in Country Living and squealed out loud! Lol, you’d think I actually knew you, instead of just admired your blog from afar! Congratulations 🙂

  5. How much fun is it to shop the house…instead of the mall. Changing things up is always a good thing and I think a great way to confuse the heck outta the hubbys!

  6. Beautiful! You are so talented. And I’ve always loved that mirror. Did you paint/antique it? I’d love to know your technique for that — I just got a new (to me) headboard for my daughter’s room and I want to do the same paint effect.

Also — I have to ask — where’d your dining area go?

    Looks great!
