Tie Dye pillows DIY
I had the opportunity to try out a tie dye kit with Michaels. It’s a fun way to kick off summe – with the Tulip One-Step Tie Dye Party Kit!
I decided to make some Tie dye pillows.

It’s a great way to have fun all from one box and Tie Dye Your Summer.

There were supplies for 6 people and 14 colors. Even though this would be a fun party, I decided to use the kit to make some pillows. I love how tie dye looks like watercolor and that trend is so hot right now.

I decided on the dry method because I didn’t want the colors to run as much. I set up station on my back deck.
After opening up the kit it was nice to see there was a plastic tarp and gloves ready to go. And the bottles were set too, I just needed to add water to the fill line and mix.

I mixed up yellow, blue and turquoise for my pillows.
There is an instruction book with techniques you could use, but I opted for what I’ll call the free-form rubber band wrap from my youth.

After applying the dye to the one shirt, I decided to use the extra dye to do a criss-cross pattern for something different.

It recommends waiting 6-8 hours. I wanted mine a little lighter than the full color. With the extra dye I did a test shirt and gave it an occasional rinse to see how dark it was. When it got to the colors I wanted, then I washed it out. It was a little less than 6 hours. If you want it to turn out like on the box though and get the full color, make sure you follow the box instructions to a “T” (I know, bad pun.).
Once it was dry, I made my pillows. I love how they turned out too!

The color look so pretty and watercolor-ish.
A little later this summer , I am going to use this as a project with my kids. It’s pretty versatile.

and the striped criss-cross one was pretty cool and very easy to do.

You can throw a full tie dye birthday or pool party, tie dye t-shirts, or tie die your own creations – the full kit is available in stores and more tie dye product is available on Michaels.com.
If you end up using the kit ,make sure to share it on social media with the hashtag #TieDyeYourSummer!
