The Randolph Street Market

I was honored this weekend to be contacted and asked to be  a judge at the Designer’s Choice for Charity at the Randolph street market in Downtown Chicago.  Even though it was  a little wet,  my cousin, Sandy, and I took and early ride to Chicago. It was very cool to be able to go and participate. I was able to choose 5 items that I thought were amazing, award them with a ribbon,  and a portion of the proceeds went to my favorite charity. Mine was for Feed My Starving Children. It’s a charity that we pack meals at through our church.  It’s been a great experience for our family and I enjoyed using my design skills for a good cause.
A woman stands at an outdoor market holding papers and a drink, surrounded by furniture, art, and market stalls on a cloudy day at the Designer's Choice for Charity event.

While I walked around, there were also lots of vintage goodies to look at and try not to buy. It was amazing how the vendors had such amazing finds and beautiful displays.
A group of paper in a glass bowl, thoughtfully arranged as part of the Designer's Choice for Charity collection.
I loved these business cards. I thought they were so clever that they looked just like vintage library cards, which I have a special place for in my heart.
A woman and a man stand together indoors, smiling at the camera. Behind them, a sign highlights the Designer's Choice for Charity event.
I got to meet Jason Loper from Apartment Therapy. He was so nice and we had a great time chatting. I love his design eye.

Three women stand close together outdoors, smiling at the camera during a Designer's Choice for Charity event. Trees and tents are visible in the background.

And these too gorgeous ladies, Lisa and Caren, from SimoneDreary Design group. We agreed it was dangerous to be there, we wanted to buy everything.
Indoor flea market with multiple vendors selling vintage clothing, antiques, and collectibles. Shoppers browse various stalls in a large, well-lit hall, featuring a Designer's Choice for Charity section supporting local causes.
The ballroom was huge and full of stuff that was so much fun to look through!
Four vintage wooden theater seats with metal armrests and legs are arranged outdoors on asphalt, with the end seat featuring decorative cast iron detailing—a true Designer's Choice for Charity.
I tagged these awesome 1920 theatre chairs as one of my designer choices. How great would these be in a mudroom or entryway?
A green chalkboard with a wooden frame stands in a parking lot, featuring a blue ribbon on the left side—marked as Designer's Choice for Charity.
and I couldn’t pass up a vintage chalkboard. That sold right away. It was gone by the time I did my second loop. It was a pretty amazing vintage find.
Three large, old metal fan covers with exposed wires and a visible GE logo are displayed outdoors among other assorted vintage items—perfect as a Designer's Choice for Charity centerpiece.
Loved the copper on these fans they would make amazing repurposed lighting.
A light gray vintage cabinet with two doors and one drawer, displayed indoors, features a blue award ribbon labeled "Designer’s Choice for Charity" hanging from a handle.
I tagged this  really cool painted buffet piece. If I had brought my check book it would’ve come home with me.
Outdoor display of vintage furniture, including chairs, a round table, a bust, an ornate mirror, and shutter panels set against a rug under a tent—Designer’s Choice for Charity.
This vendor has a gorgeous booth with all of her upholstered pieces. I really loved the chairs and the choice of fabrics.
A variety of vintage silverware, including teapots, trays, and serving dishes, displayed on wooden tables at an outdoor market—a Designer's Choice for Charity event.
I drooled over all of this vintage silver. So many gorgeous serving pieces!
A wooden swivel stool with a blue ribbon labeled "Editor's Choice" and "Designer's Choice for Charity" attached to the seat, placed on a wooden floor in a workshop or storage area.
But I had to tag this vintage tractor seat. How perfect for under a island or desk and the wood was beautiful!
Four vintage metal drawers with green fronts and label holders are open, stacked on a patterned surface. Behind them, type drawers labeled with font names hint at a Designer's Choice for Charity.

I loved the green patina on these old metal drawers. I imagine all of the things I could keep inside of them! The pulls on them are pretty amazing as well.

Four metal baskets with perforated sides, part of a Designer’s Choice for Charity selection, are placed on the ground at an outdoor market, with shelves and various items visible in the background.

I am seeing vintage olive buckets all over the place. They make great planters, pretty waste baskets and more.

Two weathered wooden trays are stacked on a metal stand, showing signs of age and wear. Part of the Designer's Choice for Charity collection, other objects are blurred in the background.

I also love the look and feel of these vintage wood dough bowls. You can see one styled with faux orchids here.

Three rectangular wooden trays sit on a metal rack, showing signs of wear and age, as part of the Designer's Choice for Charity collection, with various furniture items visible in the background.
It was so fun to see all of the vintage items and to imagine what kind of possibility they could have.
It was an honor to be a designer in their Designer’s Choice for Charity and to spend the day at the Randolph Street Market.  I am looking forward to doing some more flea market shopping next week at the Kane Country Flea Market and then the next week is the Nada Sale!

  3. Jennifer, we loved having you and what a great blogger you are too!! You brought sunshine on our rainy day and it was for a great cause. Your picks all sold, you chose well 🙂

  4. I love going downtown to stroll through Randolph Street…such great stuff!

And too funny…I have the very same chalkboard! Lately I have been toying with painting over the green with black chalkboard paint…but I hate to ruin the originality of it all.

Oh, and those metal drawers would have found their way into my car for sure! So cool! ;o)
