Decorating with a Found Vintage Green Toolbox

I can’t tell you how many years this toolbox sat in our garage until I looked up one day and actually noticed it. I never noticed how it was painted the loveliest shade of vintage green, and was quirky and charming at the same time. I knew it was going to be perfect for decorating with.

the toolbox was a series of drawers that was from my husband’s childhood home. He said it was there as long as he could remember, and he took it with him when he finally moved out.

I cleaned it up and noticed what a great green color it was . The top drawers are zinc and I keep some of my flower seeds, and seam binding in there. The top was perfect for displaying some gorgeous vintage books, an antique bottle with a few sprigs of fern clippings and a vintage clock.

I love how the deep green plays so well with the bright green of the fern fronds. I placed the red books behind it to really make it pop. I was having way too much fun decorating with the found vintage green toolbox!

The top of the wood tool cabinet was the perfect place to display all of my old and vintage books.

Vintage book stacks
I thought it looked cute with all of my vintage books on it and I loved the contrast. The books and darker colors are getting me in the mood for fall decorating.
I added a few more pieces like this metal bird on top of more books, and another fun vintage clock I had on hand. They all seemed to go so well together to create a vignette! Sometimes you never know what treasures you have just laying around!

  1. It looks just wonderful, especially with the books! I just love the look of old. I too have sometimes run across things that are “hidden” in my home. That’s the best bargain yet!
    Great blog, I’ll be back!

  2. That is so true! I have tons of stuff stashed away that just takes a fresh look to get the inspiration flowing. I love this little green box and think your arrangement with all your vintage books is just perfect!
    Happy Fall! 🙂

  3. I love it! My husband has noticed that I check out his tools and buckets of junk a little more closely of late. He told me not to be getting any ideas!!

  4. Oh Jen what a fabulous cabinet and I absolutely adore the way you have displayed it with other treasures!!!! I am thrilled to have found your blog and I am your new and very happy follower! Warmest wishes from a 500 year old farmhouse in England – Glenda xxx

  6. Love your tool box vignette, Jenn!

We did go to the Randolph St Mkt last night for the Blue Ribbon judging. Missed you! Saw your nametag on the clipboard and was so excited you might be there!
    Did I miss you?

Got to buy a couple things as they were unloading but did not get a chance to run down there today.

Hope the weather held out for them!
See you at Na Da for sure!
