Make a DIY suitcase vase
Hi everyone! As a Michaels Maker, one of the first things I get to do is help launch their Big Brand Sale (which starts on Sunday), with a brand from Michaels that I love.
Ashland is a brand I use when creating unique home décor products and finishing touches on my home throughout the year . The line spans from baskets, candles, decorative plate chargers and floral, to more. There are new things every season.I love going up and down those aisles of home decor and seeing everything they have. I have to admit, I salivate a little.
There was a ton of really cute things to work from, but I created a
suitcase vase from a really great bottle set, a vintage-inspired suitcase and a moss-covered craft block, all from the Ashland line.
This is actually a really simple project too. The foam was a little messy to cut, but other than that it was easy.
I love a good, easy project!
First I measured the bottle sizes on the moss block and then cut the circles out. I love the shape of these bottles! They reminded me of something that would come out of an old apothecary.
I placed the moss in the suitcase and then carefully put bottles in the holes I cut out. I didn’t want to force them in. The holes should be big enough for the bottles to easily slide in and out.
I filled the bottles about halfway up with water.
And added some fresh, cut hydrangeas from the yard. I love the contrast against the wood of the suitcase with the green moss.
I love how I can change it out with the season. I tucked a nest and some faux ferns to give it some dimension.
When I get some really full blooms, it will look like flowers are spilling out of the suitcase. Who doesn’t want a suitcase full of prettiness?
I think for Fall I’ll do some mums and mini-pumpkins.
And when I am tired of the vase idea, I can reuse everything on it’s own, or for something else.
If you haven’t seen any of the Ashland home décor line, it is exclusive to Michaels and is sold on Michaels.com and in all stores AND it is on sale 8/2-8/8 – just check out the Big Brand Sale landing page for more details.
Very clever! I love it 🙂
Beautiful post.
I see I need to put a trip to Michaels on my shopping list. 🙂
