Mulched Sedum in the Garden
It was just dead and GAK! *sigh* why does after-Winter have to look so gross? It was so exciting to finally have spring arrive, see what came up(and back) and then get to the down and dirty work of replanting, trimming, Honey Locust pod removal(hate them!),weeding, mulching and landscaping. It’s amazing what some weeding will do. Mulch was on sale so I stocked up and mulched sedum in the garden.
I added a pot in the center for some height in all of the Lamium.
It’s so pretty when it fills in with it’s variegated leaves and pink flowers, but it can be a lot of green with  out anything to break it up.
I put a Spike,Coleus, and Sweet potato vines in so they will fill in over the next few weeks.
I moved some Cabbage Roses and Hosta from my yard to fill in.
I adore this big blue Hosta. He’ll get about 3 feet tall at full height.
I put in a little path down the center like an English garden, and some Scabiosa and more Coleus and Hosta. I wanted to put things in that were low maintenance, but would fill in nicely and tamely as summer progresses on.
Here is the start of the path right off of the driveway. I just used regular, old un-dyed Cypress mulch.
I can’t wait to see how it grows in! I did have to pull a ton of Lamb’s Ear. It took off like crazy!
I also wanted to show you our side lot. I didn’t take any before pictures, but it was really over-grown. I spent all day Thursday with hubby cutting down brush, digging out broken bricks and pulling weed trees. There were a couple of Mulberry’s and invasive Buckthorn’s we had to had to hack out of there and dig the roots out. I was a little sore Friday.
I was able to get these Arbor Vitae on sale for $15 each because the pots were damaged. How awesome is that?
And  I lined it on the edge with some vintage bricks from the yard. For some reason, the previous owners loooooved bricks. They were all over the place. Better for recycling, and they look really cool.
I think they are going to give some great privacy on the deck and look really pretty from the street. Luckily, we’ve been getting a ton of rain so I haven’t had to water!

Great landscape work! And you were smart to tackle the yard while putting the flood reno on hold, as well as the cottage reno, even though I know that must’ve been hard to do, knowing your ‘get it done’ style! The yard looks beautiful! Kudos!

Beautiful job Jen…backbreaking work. I wished for HGTV too, but the satisfaction of doing it yourself… Priceless! Have a great summer! Love, Penny

The transformation from winter to spring is amazing. It is amazing that something that once looked so bleak could become something so beautiful. I can’t wait to see what you do with your little cottage.

Rehab after Rehab. lol I think I need HGTV for desperate landscaping in our backyard. We did our own (ok my husband with help from our 80 year old neighbor) front yard landscaping.
