new toy to old truck with a tree

If you are a Harley-Davidson fan, turn away now, what you are about to see just might be too much for you…

new toy turned vintageI was at the good old Hob Lob last week when I spotted this guy in clearance.

I always wanted one of those cute, red toy trucks with a tree hanging out of it, and I saw an opportunity staring me in the face.

(Now you do have to remember it’s estro-fest over here, so no one thinks twice about defacing a boy toy. In fact, I bet Polly Pockets has a cool new ride now.)

I picked up a can of red spray paint and a bottle brush tree and taped off anything I didn’t want bright red,

and sprayed away.

Super cute DIY, old truck with a tree by pray painting a kids toy.Isn’t it cute? I used regular acrylic paint to make the tires white.

use spray paint to make a new truck look vintageI love all of it’s redness. So much better than that orange and black! It makes such a cute truck with a tree!

make an easy old truck with a tree with a new toy car I might have to attack the matchbook car aisle next!!!

  1. I have a wooden truck we got in a gift basket one year, it’s was one of those things in the Christmas box that just stays among all the Christmas that I dont use. I’ve never used to or even thought to throw it out, and boy am I glad I didn’t,,, how cute will it be to paint the body red and leave the bed of the truck the wood, Thanks for the inspiration!!

  2. I love this, Jen. What a sweet addition to your Christmas decor. I hope you do find more. Deb

  3. LOVE it, Jen! I might just have to do this if I can’t find one {at a good price} already done. I never would have thought of this. I just commented on another blog recently that I’ve got my eye out for one to put a bottlebrush tree in the back for the holidays.

  4. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! I’ve been looking for an old red chevy for ages and can’t find one. Now I know I can broaden my search! Thanks so much for this!! 🙂

  5. LOVE this! I ask Santa every year for an old red pick-up… maybe I’ll just create my own miniature!

  6. Oh, how cute! I love what you did and I could do it too. I’ve always wanted a vintage truck to decorate with but could never find one. Yay! I may be on a trip to Hobby Lobby.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia 😉

  7. Beautiful imagination! Love it – I hope there’s more – my husband is restoring an old truck that looks similar – it would be cool to get one and paint it the color he’s thinking of – the original sky blue!
    Loved this!

  8. Adorable! Wouldn’t this also be cute with a miniature wreath on the front grill of the pickup?

  9. Ha ha ha Estro forest Polly Pocket’s got a brand new ride! Cracking up as we have two daughters-and now a granddaughter! Thx for the paint idea…here comes my turquoise Xmas tree truck!
