Hosting an elegant Regency era vintage-themed party is not only a sweet idea for a party that feels romantic and lovely, it can also be sustainable by using thrifted and vintage items. There is nothing like holding a party with decorations that speaks to a Little Women aesthetic,Bridgerton or something that Jane Austen would have thrown herself. I wanted to share some of these vintage-inspired party ideas with you that are easy ideas for entertaining and make everything feel a little bit special and fancy.
The Regency era was a time slightly before the Victorian era. It focuses on ornamentation, curved and elegant furniture legs, fancy chandeliers, rich woods stripes and large mirrors. In fact, Modern Regency seems to be popping up all over with gilt-framed artwork, large scale wallpaper, picture frame molding and brass. When hosting a Regency-inspired party, keep in mind it’s all about opulence and luxury.
The Regency Era Features Fabric Choices Such As Chinoiserie, Chintz And Of Course Florals.
While chinoiserie or chintz can be hard to find or pricey, a pretty floral table cloth can certainly fill in for that bit of fanciness. This tablecloth with the tassels has that feel. Use inexpensive tablecloths to cover your couches and chairs as well.
Use Vintage China In Your Place Settings
I am not a fussy person, but I do love my vintage china. We actually use it everyday and since I never pay more than a dollar or two at the thrift store, then if It breaks I’m not too upset. When I have guests over, I pull it all out and mix and match my patterns. Of course, it’s important to check your vintage china for lead before using it. Many patterns are now shown to have unacceptable levels for use. If you unsure, use them or decoration only and use plain plates, glass plates , or new dishware that looks old for food contact and use the vintage dishes for decor only.
Pull Out The Vintage Sliver and Silverware
Instead of using modern silverware, pull out the stuff sitting in a box in the attic. It might need to be polished first, but it is sure to make a beautiful table setting. Many times vintage spoons and forks can be found at thrift stores and flea markets. As a second they do make plastic silverware that looks like fancy silverware… In a pinch it will work.
Place Food On Platters And On Pedestals
Pull out all of your beautiful serving platters or find some vintage (lead-free) ones! Glass hobnail pedestals elevate food and make the table look interesting.
Serve All Of Your Drinks Out Of Wine Or Coupe Glasses
Don’t be afraid to make the entire thing fancy! Even Diet Coke or seltzer water taste better in a fancy glass.
Add Lots Of Flowers!
The Regency era was about elegance and excess. Curves legs of furniture, wall panels, gold and gilding, and flowers. Spread flowers in beautiful vases and even pitchers. Flowers make everything look pretty and elevate the room and the decor.
Add Candlelight
Of course there is nothing more romantic than flowers and candles. If you’re worried about burning real candles and keeping an eye on them, even battery- operated candles such as these can cast that moody and ethereal glow. And they look so real now! Mix and match with brass candlestick or with crystal candlesticks. See how these mix and matched crystal candlesticks create a beautiful table setting.
Bring The Elegant Party Outside
I love a fancy summer outdoor party. For outdoor parties, bring out night time lighting such as sting bulbs and add jars of flowers. IF you’re feeling brave. add rented tufted furniture or real chairs and tables such as this party at Jeanne Oliver’s.
And enjoy! Bringing in elegance doesn’t have to be expensive when you are hosting and an elegant Regency era vintage-themed party, because they best thing about party is always the company!
