DIY Paint Stripe Towels with Embroidery Floss Tassels
I have an easy and cute project for you: DIY paint stripe towels! This is really easy and fun, and you can coordinate it to any kitchen color scheme you like! It’s an easy home decor craft to do, and you can make one for a friend for gifting and one for yourself!
Start with plain, white, cotton tea towels that are pre-washed and dried to remove any sizing. If you are going to pick regular acrylic paint over a fabric paint, you need to mix it with fabric textile medium. Otherwise, you can use regular fabric paint and follow the directions for setting and washing.
Pick the order of your colors, and working one direction to another, paint stripes down, filling in any areas the paint doesn’t fill in. I kind of like the slightly patchy look, it looks handmade that way.
Let your paint dry according to the directions. Some paints need to be heat set for permanence so make sure to read the directions so your hard work doesn’t wash out. While you are waiting, you can make your tassels.
Cut a skein of embroidery floss near the top. Tie a loop through the top.
Then tie it around the top to make the tassel shape.
I did mine in a few different colors.
Once your towel is dry and your paint is set, sew the tassels on the bottom. If you are worried about the color bleeding, you can pre-wash the tassels by hand and let them dry before you sew them on.
Once they are sewn on, it’s ready to gift!
This DIY painted towel is a perfect, pretty addition to any kitchen with lots of fun color!
And you know Mom loves to get anything handmade! This would be so nice to gift in a basket with a pretty soap, or some herbs. You could also wrap it around a wine bottle because you know sometimes Momma just needs some wine. 🙂
