Decorating with Vintage Room Decor

Hi everyone! Today I have my good friend Kelly Elko is sharing a little about decorating with vintage room decor. She has some amazing vintage decor collections and antique decor that she uses in her home to decorate with and add character and interest that she finds in vintage shops, flea markets, thrift stores and estate sales. It adds a classic and timeless charm to her home. I know you’ll get inspiration and amazing vintage decorating ideas for your own home.

Hi Jennifer Rizzo peeps! I’m Kelly of KellyElko.com and I love mixing old & new and high & low to create a truly singular vintage style that surpasses all of the trends. One of the best ways to get a unique, one of a kind look that you know you won’t find in your neighbors’ homes is to start a vintage collection …or two or three (yes, I have collecting issues). Here are a few of my favorite collections. Vintage decanters. Very mad men era aren’t they? Made in Italy they are a treasure that has me saying amore. All of the colors grouped together on a mantelscape they make a statement piece. I love how the yellow glass adds a certain warmth.

Two of my favorite collections are neighbors in my dining room – an eclectic plate wall and demijohns (which is just a fancy word for wine jug.). They are some favorite vintage finds. The plate wall creates a focal point and the demijohns are some nice vintage pieces clustered together on a side table. They are great furnishings to collect because you can use them for fresh or live flowers and greenery. By themselves they can also be a great centerpiece.

As inexpensive vintage items. milk glass can be found at yard sales for as little as $1. Many of them have that amazing hobnail texture that adds a touch of nostalgia. Placed together on my hutch, they add vintage charm in  a large grouping against the natural wood.

If your grandfather sent your grandmother flowers when they were courting, chances are, they were delivered in a green glass vase. Now they are all mine (insert evil laugh), sitting happily in my foyer on a old rolling shelf. The green  color palettes adds a certain elegance and liveliness against the white wall.

Vintage landscapes in my living room create a one of a kind gallery wall over the sofa. Artwork like this is great anywhere in your home from an entryway to bedroom decor. If you can’t find landscapes, try grouping floral prints.
