Gold on black for the holidays, how to make a West Elm inspired pillow….
I seeĀ a new trend coming. I can see black slowly creeping back into decor.I haven’t used black in a while, but I love it.
I’ve seen these West Elm plates all over blogland and love the look gold natural hand-lettering on the black matte finish of the plates.
These plates are done by a very talented artist named Shanna Murray
This pretty setting is from Making Lemonade
I know you have seen her work before, here are some holiday cards she did for Terrain last year.
In fact you can see a lot more of her work on her Facebook page.
I was inspired by her work to create this pillow.I zipped a quick pillow with an envelope enclosure in black suiting material. I really wantedĀ to use black linen, but my fabric store was out.
I printed out my image and transferred it using chalk.
I rubbed chalk on the backside,
and then used a pen on the front to trace the image with firm pressure to transfer my text.
Once I made sure my whole transfer was done,I used a gold paint pen to trace the chalk lines.
Then I filled in with gold acrylic paint.
I let it dry 24 hours. If you think you are going to wash it, you can add fabric textile medium to your paint.
I put in a pillow insert and BAM!
Though I will tell you, I have found black to be a challenge to photograph if the light is bad.
I also have the text printable for you so you can make your own!
