Life Hack:Making Your House Smell Like Cookies

Hi everyone! Can we talk cookies? Who doesn’t want their house to smell like cookies? I cannot stand it when I walk in my house and it smells gacky. Or, if I’ve cooked something and the cooking smell hangs around too long. And I don’t always like using those plug-ins with chemicals.  This life hack is an awesome way to make your house smell amazing with natural ingredients!

How to make your house smell like cookies . Spices and a spoon full of spice and measuring cup of water

One of my favorite life hacks is making my house smell like cookies when I am not really baking. It’s so easy too! It’s so easy and non-toxic and most of the time I already have the ingredients I need on hand, so it’s free! I take 2 cups of really hot tap water,1-2 tsp of my favorite spice, and a tsp of vanilla, mix them together and add them to my mini-crock pot.

(If I need a quick odor cover over, I’ll put them in a pan on low on the stove, but I keep an eye on them so they don’t burn)

Once it warms up, the smell of baking fills the kitchen, making your house smell like cookies are baking… And I can enjoy the yummy smell of baking all day long.

For different scents, you can also add any of these to the 2 C. of water:

For a more snicker-doodle smell, use straight cinnamon or cake spice. Use cinnamon, ginger and cloves for a gingerbread cookie smell.

You can also do orange peel and vanilla.

Or for a cozy, homey scent, 2 TBSP of coffee grounds and 1 tsp vanilla.

Or for a Thin Mints® scent 2 TBSP Cocoa and 1 tsp mint extract

It’s amazing how your family will walk in and ask what you are baking. :)Because who doesn’t love the smell of cookies? If you love real cookies, check out this recipe for heart-shaped pie crust cookies, and edible cactus cupcake toppers.

  1. Hi Jen –
Your post put a big smile on my face this morning. 🙂 I, too was a Girl Scout until the 7th grade. I have such fond memories of all the trips we went on and things we did and made. I still have all my sashes and badges somewhere in my attic.

About a year ago I found the Junior handbook I had at a thrift store. I snatched it right up and have it proudly displayed in my office. Looking through it was a trip down memory lane. Being a Girl Scout with a great leader truly helped me become more creative and resourceful in everything I do.

I will be trying the vanilla and pumpkin pie mixture on my stove come fall. XO

  2. I was not a girl scout, nor where my sisters..

life hack = put saran wrap on the end of bananas to keep from getting brown.

  3. My ultimate favorite life hack is freezing wet sponges in Ziploc bags to use as ice packs in my kids school lunches.

  4. I WAS A GIRL SCOUT ALSO AND RAN ACROSS MY SASH AND BADGES THE OTHER DAY. I WAS ALSO A GIRL SCOUT LEADER FOR MY DAUGHTER’S TROUP. I MISS BEING A GIRL SCOUT. I LOVE YOUR BLOG

I LIKE TO MIX WATER AND RUBBING ALCOHOL AND FREEZE IN ZIPLOCK BAGS TO HAVE AS ICE PACKS WHEN NEEDED.

    THANK YOU FOR THE GIVEAWAY!!!

  5. I keep a box of latex gloves in my pantry. They are very reasonably priced for a large box. I grab a pair and wear them whenever I handle raw meat or other messy job.

  6. A favorite life hack of mine is to rub a block of cheese with butter before putting in back in the fridge so it will stay fresh and not get those hard edges. Thank you so much for the opportunity to enter.

  7. I love to do that also..I love to use fabric softener sheets as a filter in my heat vents..makes the house smell nice when the furnace kicks in and also acts like a filter to keep the lint out of the heating ducts

  8. One of my favorite life hacks is to use toilet paper rolls to bundle electrical cords.

Thanks for the chance to win!

  9. Two stain removal tricks for really hard to remove stains: Spilled red wine? Just pour white wine on the stain while wet. It disappears! Wood stain on your hands is almost impossible to remove. Turpentine, nail polish remover, lava soAP? none of them work. What does work? Remove the wood stain from your hands with cheese. Yep, seriously – rub a piece of cheese (I used cheddar) on you hands and that wood stain comes right off!

  10. My life hack is to reuse rain water on my plants. I have buckets in certain spots and use the rain water to water plants. Saves on water!

  11. Coconut oil is my favorite life hack right now. I have been using it for so many things! My favorite is just using it to grease my pans instead of using the fake stuff in the can!

  12. I like to use dryer sheets in drawers and linen cupboards to keep things smelling fresh.
