Slow Cooker Mulled Wine with Orange and Spices

This post is sponsored by Flat Top Wine and is intended for readers 21 and over, and as always enjoy responsibly. See our affiliate and sponsor disclosure here.

One thing I really love about the holidays is all of the goodies that come along with it. I love my sweets and treats. If you let me loose on a holiday table full of cookies, I can do some serious damage. One thing I really enjoy when the weather gets cooler is spiced drinks. In the fall, I love mulled cider, but during the holidays, bring on the eggnog and especially mulled wine full of yummy spices. Since it’s about that time, I wanted to share with you our very sippable recipe for slow cooker mulled wine with orange and spices. The thing I love about mulled wine is that  it can also go in the fridge for a few days and either be reheated in a small pan, or enjoyed cold as well. I like that because then I can also have a mug in the evening when I’m hanging out watching my favorite holiday movies. And I love making it in the crockpot instead of on the stove top in a pot, because if I’m having people over, or doing something else, I can let it do it’s thing and “mull” while I work on other stuff.

Spices and orange for mulled wine

To make crockpot mulled wine (which serves about 8) with orange and spices you’ll need: a large crockpot,  Red wine such as the Red Blend from Flat top Hills, 3 cups of apple cider, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 8-9 cloves, 2 star anise, 3 sticks of cinnamon, 1/2 tablespoon of rainbow peppercorn, 1 sliced fresh orange(about 4 slices) to go in the pot (and a few orange slices for garnish). This also makes a great gift, and you can also see this post here on how to make a mulled wine gift for your neighbors with a  free printable!

Add all of your ingredients into the slow cooker and put the  setting on high for 15 minutes until it comes to a simmer, then switch it to low for the next 30 minutes. After 45 minutes, keep it on warm and serve for up to two hours. When serving, if you’re keeping it in the slow cooker, make sure to strain out all of the spices and chunks from your slow cooker mulled wine with oranges and spices before serving. I find it’s easier to just pour into each mug through a small strainer. If you don’t want the hassle you can make a giant tea bag with the mulling spices with a coffee filter and bakers twine. Garnish with a fresh orange or pear round and a cinnamon stick.

I think this is super yummy! The Red Blend from Flat Top Hills has just the right amount of dark berry flavors to really make the mulled wine full and rich tasting, and it really pairs well with the cinnamon and cloves in the spices. This is amazing served with brie and crackers or a meat and cheese tray.
