Abstract Living Room Art

When I took all of my holiday decor down,I loved being able to give my home a fresh new look.  I had grabbed a piece of art from my bedroom to add some color in, and while I loved  how it looked in my living room, I really missed it in my bedroom. Our DecoArt challenge this month was to paint a piece of canvas art with the Americana Premium line of paints (which I love!). I decided to paint a new piece of abstract living room art, so I could return the one to my bedroom. I used Americana Premium paints, and an old wood canvas I had, to create something that fit perfectly in my space.

I started by painting over the old image on the wood board with Americana Premium Titanium White acrylic paint. I left the frame in it’s original state  because I love the wood tone and contrast.

After the base coat dried, I started by picking up some Phthalo Blue on my paint brush and making some wide downward strokes.

I Repeated the strokes in an overlapping manor. After I had added as much blue as I wanted, I used the Americana Premium Paint in Carbon Black.

I took a break, grabbed some coffee, and let those colors dry. Once they were dry, I used the Titanium White to go back over the strokes of blue and black, and painted a translucent square.  After the white paint dried, I used some gold leafing to add shine. I love to gold leaf, it’s such a fun process, like these bottles I had made last year.

Once the gold leaf was on, my art was ready to hang. The nice thing about using something that was already on the wall, was that it already has a frame, and the hangers are already there!

I love how my abstract living room art turned out, and how it looks in the room! It’s really a better size than the art from upstairs for that area.

The art goes so well with the curtains! I grow more in love with those blue velvet drapes everyday, I am really glad a took a chance on them!
