Glass apothecary jars are beautiful jars that have a history of being used in pharmacies to hold medication. Now a days they are used as display and decorating with seasonal decor. Many times they come in pretty shapes and various sizes and area great way to add a mini-vignette to your living room or another room of your home. While classic apothecary jars are beautiful, I don’t want you to be limited by just those. Any large glass, tall jar or even a cloche can serve for creating a pretty and interesting display. I wanted to share with you a few of my favorite ways to fill and decorate apothecary jars for Christmas (and other similar containers).
Decorating Christmas Apothecary Jars and Other Glass Containers
Christmas is one of my favorite holidays of the year, and I even host a huge virtual holiday housewalk every year filled with Christmas decorating ideas! There is something about the sparkle of glass at the holidays that adds to the glittery magic! I love using different glass jars and containers to add to my decor. I always seem to find apothecary jars at the thrift store for a few dollars too. Here are a few ideas:
Cloches are kind of kind upside down apothecary jars for simply, and if you have something that is too big to fit inside of the neck of your glass jars, you can always use a cloche instead to achieve a similar look. Placing a cloche over battery operated candles has a pretty glow and is an easy way to decorate a holiday centerpiece.
A canister full of of cocoa at the holidays makes every one happy to warm up some water and have a cup or two with some mini-marshmallows.
Vintage (or new) ornaments in a pretty jars is a great way to display favorite or pretty ornaments and keep them safe at the same time.
Different types of Peppermint candy in beautiful Apothecary jars is a great vase filler idea! It’s a pretty and inexpensive way to decorate for the holidays. Shop similar apothecary jars here.
Even glass bowls can be pretty for ornaments and displaying them. This vintage cut glass pedestal bowl is a pretty way to show off some vintage shiny-brite ornaments. Leading into fall, you can also fill these containers with faux acorns, plain or glittered pine cones. mini-pumpkins and other fun fall decor items.
Smaller containers can also be used like cute terrariums with faux snow and other embellishments. These items can also be placed in an apothecary jar or other large jars for a similar look. This cute, glittery winter bird is the perfect touch with a sweet spring of boxwood.
