Easy lamp makeover with paint
I have a quick and easy lamp makeover! I am in the process of giving our bedroom a bigger one. I am trying paint colors out now, and I can’t wait to share my new bedding with you! It’s one of those things that has been a long time coming. I last painted our bedroom over 6 years ago,and the color is old and tired, its time for a fresh look! In fact, in the finished lamp picture, you can see where I am testing paint colors behind it.
I have a lamp that was kind of blue and blah. I thought it would be fun to paint it, and add a little texture to it and make it a little more interesting.
I first did a base coat with a white enamel paint. It took about 3 coats for complete coverage. I would have preferred to spray paint it, but that doesn’t get to happen again here until about mid-April if I’m lucky. Luckily, the satin enamel paint I used goes on really smooth , so I had minimal issue with paint streaks or lines.
After that dried, I used an enamel gold paint for the accent, and I made little abstract dabs with my brush. I wanted it to feel very free-form, and easy. I did end up doing it twice though, because the first time, my blobs looked too..blob-y. Once that dried it was ready to go!
I really like how it turned out. It looks so much better than before and it’s kind of fun! You can see behind the easy lamp makeover where I tested a lighter gray color on a bit of the wall.
I put it up and it took a few days for my husband to notice it. Then, he got that look on his face like What are you doing? Man, I love keeping that guy on his toes. Paint is the DIY girls’ haircut, if you know what I mean. It’s all in not saying anything, and then waiting to see if and when he notices for the best reaction.
It was a very easy lamp makeover though, and a really easy way to update and old ceramic lamp. I made-over a brass lamp here. I love being able to use what I have to update a space.
