Make a Yarn Crochet Glitter Bird Wreath

In case you are wondering where all of the glitter went to at the craft store, it’s at my house. And when I say at my house, I mean in my hair, on my pants and in the cracks of our wood floor. Dang glitter. I created a glitter bird wreath with vintage bird images and crochet around a metal macrame hoop. I’ve been working on some crocheted wreaths with paper bird ephemera that I’ve just fallen in love with that glitters. I wanted to share how I made it with you in case you wanted to make one of your own.

Supplies to make a Yarn Crocheted Glitter Bird Wreath:

Metal Macrame hoop

Acrylic yarn in cream or white

Cardstock

Vintage Images

White Craft Glue

Fine Glitter in black, silver, or color of choice

Twine to hanging

To begin creating your wreath, crochet a single crochet around the hoop. If you don’t know how to crochet you can also wrap the yarn around the base. It helps to tie a knot and then apply a drop pf glue and let it dry before wrapping to help hold it in place. If you like yarn wrapped decor, see how to make these yarn wrapped Christmas trees.

Print your vintage bird images on heavy cardstock. I printed mine on a kraft color of cardstock because I wanted a natural look. There are some printable swallow image below, but you can find even more here.

Apply glitter to your birds

Once your birds are cut out of the cardstock, apply white craft glue to just the edges and dip in glitter color of choice. I edged some of mine in a black glitter. I also painted some completely with craft glue and covered completely in silver glitter for contrast.

Small paper joy banner on a wreath

I also added a small banner that said “joy” on it and added some glitter. I love how whimsical it feels.

Glue your birds to the yarn wreath

Once your birds are dry use the white craft glue to adhere them onto the crochet wreath. I used a bit of lace trim to create a way to hang it at the top by tying it in two place to hang.

I love that this is the kind of wreath that can stay up way past the holidays. It’s almost a winter wreath that you en enjoy long after the tree comes down. You can grab this free printable with swallow images on it. They are in color and black and white so you can make your own holiday wreath or use these little birds for another project.
