Reflection of Ourselves: Santos Art Doll Assemblage Workshop Retreat

I am so excited to announce that I will be teaching a project that is near and dear to my heart. Almost 10 years ago I first taught a Santos Doll workshop online, and this fall I will be teaching this workshop in person at an actual art retreat! I hope you’ll join me and our retreat host Jill Green in South Haven, Michigan for a weekend of hands on creativity and sculpting with the workshop Reflection of Ourselves: Santos Art Doll Assemblage Workshop Retreat.

Reflections of Ourselves: Santos and Art Doll Creation and Assemblage will be taking a new twist on a traditional art form.
Using clay and other mixed media materials, we will be creating a santos art doll from scratch including armature, structure, and then final painting, detail and assembly.

Historically a Santos doll is a wood or clay figure created to represent a saint. In this workshop we are going to explore creating a personal reflection of ourselves in clay including our likes, dislikes, and deepest desires. Using not only the techniques of creating these physically while tapping into who we are.

In this workshop, all materials will be provided including the base (except for the materials used to create your personal assemblage inside of the base.).

This three day workshop features hands on classroom time, vintage shopping and a morning nature walk to gather additional elements for our assemblage, and fun evening socials for developing creative connections.

Lodging for The Santos Doll Art Retreat:

I am staying at The Nest, the cute house of our host. This is also where the social gatherings are happening and is a 10 minute walk to the workshop location. There are additional rooms available, but it has limited spaces, so if you want to join me in staying there you will want to grab those spots right away.

Here is the information on the house. Each room has two beds so you can come to the workshop with a friend!

If The Nest is full, there are other accommodations available throughout South Haven.
