Small Painted and Distressed Side Table Makeover
Hi everyone! I’m Angela from Number Fifty-Three and as much as I absolutely love decorating and crafting, but true passion is furniture painting. It’s the best feeling to pick up a rundown piece at a thrift store or junk shop and transform it into something spectacular, and I’m so thrilled to be able to share my recent small painted and distressed side table makeover here with you all today!

A couple of weeks ago I found this end table at my local thrift store. It was structurally in fantastic condition and super sturdy, it just had a worn and dated finish. It really needed a new look and a coat of paint.
I simply sanded the table with sand paper to remove the glossiness and gave it a good cleaning. Then, I painted it with two coats of cream paint. I really thought that the lines and legs of this table had a wonderful farmhouse feel, so I went with that inspiration in my color choice and level of distressing.Once the table had dried, I used a sanding block to create an aged look and to further enhance that farmhouse feel. I then gave it another good cleaning I sealed it with poly.
Lastly, I replaced the hardware with this black knob from my stash (and I think originally from Hobby Lobby) for contrast.
I further tied in the black by lining the drawer with a printed burlap. (Simply cut it to size and adhere with some spray adhesive.) I love how lining the drawer really finishes off the piece.
Not only do I paint furniture for my own home makeover, but I also sell quite a bit and take on custom orders. The farmhouse end table was one that I had planned to sell and, it actually did, right after I listed it!
I would love to have you all stop over to Number Fifty-Three to say hello and check out some of my other recent furniture makeovers. If you liked my farmhouse end table, you may also like…

Lovely! I have a pair that were originally hunter green and wood. One is painted white, the other not. Thanks for the inspiration to work on them.
Thank you for your comment, Elizabeth! Have fun working on your tables!

The table turned out great, Angela! It definitely has a farmhouse feel to it. Love the simplicity of the creamy white color. I loved doing furniture makeovers, too. Unless they are my own now, I have to refrain from bringing furniture home since I have closed my booth. What a great outlet that was for my projects. My son will be looking for an apartment soon, so maybe I will get to indulge when he needs some furniture pieces.
Creamy white is my favorite, Kathy! I hope your son will be in need of painted furniture. 😉

Hi Angela, great job on this oak table. I have one exactly the same waiting for a makeover down in the workshop. I’ve been humming and hawing about color. Seeing your table makeover gave me an idea and now I’m anxious to get down there to make it over.
Thanks so much for your sweet comment, Marie! Have fun with your table makeover!

What kind of paint did you use? Chalk paint?
Thanks for sharing.
Hi Irene, I don’t use a lot of chalk paint (just not my preference). This table was done in Valspar, but my favorite paint ever is from General Finishes.
