DIY Modern Boho Ornament Tree

November 19, 2020 By Jennifer

It feels like Thanksgiving is going to be just a blink this year. I think  it’s certainly going to look really different this year for a lot of us. We are having something for Thanksgiving with just our immediate family. We had a positive case in our house (luckily mild!), and recently ended our quarantine (My poor hubby had to sleep in our basement on the old couch for two weeks. He’s a trooper.). With everything going on, and how small Thanksgiving will be, putting up Christmas decorations early seems like such a happy thing to do. I’m joining a group of blog friends to share our Christmas trees, and I changed things up this year put together a DIY Modern Boho Ornament Tree.

I decided to keep our tree a little simpler this year and added wood bead garlands and handmade wool pom poms next to the bottlebrush tree mantel. Our faux Christmas tree is a basic pre-lit green tree that I put different faux pine picks and greenery in to bulk it up a bit. I love making pom poms because you can use them in all kinds of ways.

Last year I did a colorful tree with hand-painted custom orange and blue ornaments to match my rug.

This year I loved the idea of adding the gold, black and white ornaments. I have a DIY tutorial on how to make them coming!

One thing I did different this year is how I hung our star. In the past, I’ve always put a star on the top of the tree.  None of the toppers we’ve had really fit well at the top, and they always seemed to lean a little bit sideways. This year I decided to try a different approach and hand it from a hook in the ceiling. We already had hooks where the hanging plants were before the tree went up, so what’s one more hole in the ceiling? That’s what spackle is for.

Even though it was kind of  a lark to see if it would work. We actually really like it! It adds a fun, unexpected touch to our boho tree.
