Painted Lamp and Embroidered Shade Makeover
I dropped another made-over lamp and shade at Stella’s in Evanston today. I forgot to take a before picture of the lamp, it had a great shape but it was previously a really obnoxious shade of bright green. I knew it needed a Painted Lamp and Embroidered Shade Makeover. I don’t have befores, but I wanted to share the after with you.
Did you know you can paint a metal lamp base? As long as you protect any of the working parts and the electric parts, you can paint the base.
I sprayed the base a pretty robin’s egg blue. It took a few coats, but once it dried it looked so much better. I picked up a plain white shade to go with it because I knew I wanted to so come embroidery.
I stitched on the shade with embroidery thread. I think it turned out so cute, but my fingers are a bit sore from pushing the needle through. Note to self: pre-punch holes next time. I used brown and green embroidery thread.
I had these cute paper flowers I adhered to the shade with a little hot glue gun love. I love how they add a little pop of color to the shade.
I love the colors. I almost wanted to keep it. And I adore the little bird just sitting on his branch.
I think it looks a little Anthro, don’t you? It makes me feel so happy inside to see how the entire lamp and shade are transformed. I almost wanted to keep it.
I know it will find a happy, new home there!

You did an AWESOME job! I just love it! I think I sprayed two lamps the same/or very similar color today! Now you’re making me think what could I do to those shades?!
Thanks!
