Free Watercolor Peony Printable Art for Spring

When the warm weather starts approaching, I like to start adding little pops of floral elements to welcome spring. Changing out art for spring is one of the easiest and most cost effective ways to change your decor from season to season. It is such an easy DIY and even easier with a pretty free printable! I painted this beautiful watercolor of botanical spring flowers for a workshop I taught and I wanted to share it with you! I painted the watercolor peony style flowers, blue false indigo and green leaves so that it felt like a spring bouquet. This spring-inspired printable is part of The Four Seasons Printable Collection of FREE printables I’m sharing today in collaboration with several of my amazing blogger friends! Be sure to collect them all at the bottom of this post!

I also wanted to share with you how I matte a printable image in a ready-made frame. I printed my art at home, on matte cardstock but you can also have it sent to your local printer or even UPS store.

When framing art, is it mat, matt or matte?

A matte is the paper/cardboard frame that goes between the glass and the frame itself to make a framed photograph or artwork even more finished and professional. I have to admit, I didn’t know which spelling was correct. After much googling, I info out they can be and are used interchangeably. I am going to go with matte because I think it looks nicer and is easier to distinguish.

Framing art in a frame with a printable piece of floral watercolor artwork

Instead of custom framing like I did on this family picture, I decided to go with a pre-made frame. It already came with a matte so I didn’t have to worry about buying anything extra.

Trace the edge of the frame matting with a pencil

The easiest way to make sure your print fits in the frame and is lined up the way you want it to be inside the frame, is to lay it over the image and line it up. Once the image is where you want it, use a pencil to trace the outside outline of the matte frame. This will give you a reference to where to start trimming it. I actually ended up turning mine so it fit in the cut out area of the matte the correct way.

After tracing cut out artwork on printable image

Once your pencil lines are traced trim the image accordingly with scissors so it’s slightly to the inside of the edge.

Add a piece of tape to the top of the artwork

Once your image is trimmed place a piece of masking tape on the back of the printable facing up . Lay the matte frame over the top and press slightly to make the tape stick to the back of the frame to keep the spring art (or whatever season) in place. Once the tape it stuck to the back, flip the entire thing over together to finish taping the back.

Use masking tape to the back to adhere the tape to the back of the matting

Use masking tape to tape around all of the edges on the back of the matte to keep the print securely in place. Place the matted print back in the frame and display! What a beautiful way to bring a little springtime into your decor. I hope you enjoy Free Watercolor Peony Printable Art for Spring!
